SYMBOLIZES “JESUS CHRIST, GOD’S SON, SAVIOR”

And we have beheld and bear witness that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.

“Iesous Christos Theos Yios Sorter.” These Greek words translate: “Jesus Christ, God’s Son, Savior.” Breaking these words down into initials, we get: “i-ch-th-y-s.” translates as “fish.”

The early Christians used the fish symbol as a way to identify themselves to each other. This symbol was especially helpful for the Christians during times of persecution. Many times the fish symbol would be etched in the dirt where people congregated in communities. This would let wandering Christians know that others of their faith were in the vicinity.

As Christians today, may we use this symbol to seek those with whom we can share our faith in Jesus Christ. As Jesus told His disciples:

 "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men."
